Red lipstick, a staple in every makeup collection. A shade that can be worn all year round, as a classic bold statement. There are summer reds, winter reds, bright reds, orange reds, day reds, night reds and the list could go on. Today we are covering those summer reds, bright, punchy shades which are perfect for warm evenings and bright days. Good luck for my english readers as we don't seem to be getting any of that currently.
Now obviously, you can wear whatever red, whenever you like these are just my personal picks for the summertime. If there ever was a perfect time to try something new, summertime is ideal for a bold lip.
We all know about my love obsession with the Maybelline Velvet Lip Pencils (I own them all, for those of you wondering) in particular this shade Light It Up which is a really bright, true red. Amazingly easy to apply with this pencil style applicator, and the finish is velvet so nearly matte but with that extra comfort to it.
If a bold, matte, red lip is just way too much for you then this Topshop Sheer Lips in Red Alert is the perfect sheer wash of colour with a glossy finish. Almost a stain finish, this is so easy to wear and despite the wear time not being the longest it fades really easily and is very moisturising. A great one to start off with.
Clinique Cherry Pop, in a mini size because mini makeup is so much better than full size products. Another glossy finish, that packs a punch in terms of pigmentation. Wonderfully moisturising, bright finish in a true pillar box red shade.
Topshop Rio Rio is such a classic, with a satin finish, bright orange toned red. Another very affordable product, allegedly manufactured in the same warehouse as MAC so exactly the same formula. The staying power on this shade is brilliant, perfect for an occasion where you amy be eating or drinking, not completely matte but very nearly still with the comfort of a satin lipstick though.
My last pick is cheating slightly as technically MAC Barbecue is no longer sold, however it is a beautiful matte red. MAC do a whole range of red lipsticks, MAC Lady Danger is a beautiful summer red shade. If you want something super matter, Ruby Woo is the mattest of the matte but is slightly deeper. In all honestly MAC are the queens of lipstick, any shade and they will have it along with their extensive range of red lipsticks.
