A New Year of Acceptance, Happiness and Letting Go


My first post of 2016, and its going to be a chatty one. I wasn't exactly sad to say goodbye to 2015, it was possibly one of the worst years yet however that means that 2016 has the potential to be that much better.
There are a lot of things which I want to achieve this year, however I am starting to have a mixed feelings about New Years Resolutions, there is a lot of pressure on them and that is why, I believe so many people do not manage to complete their new year resolutions. So this year instead of a conventional new years resolution, I am going to have a few aims which I want to complete by the end of the year as well as something which will be my new motto for 2016, is that even a thing?
 I read this post by Sarah who writes Temporary Secretary, about letting go of things in order to make yourself happier which is something I really want to work on this year. Do what makes you happy, and be done with all the rest. To an extent this is my motto for 2016, letting go of negativity and concentrating on immersing myself in things which make me happy. Blogging, spending times with friends and families etc. Although I realise sticking to this completely would be impossible, everybody has to do things which they don't want to do and you have to accept that but I basically want to remove as much negativity as I can from my life. Big aim I know, but you might as well aim high! This is not to say however that I will be happy clappy all the time, as I realise that I do get really down, and anxious and stressed and this is just part of me but this leads onto my next point.

This year is the year, I start accepting and finding solutions instead of ignoring and denying. sounds pretty deep and full on I know but let me explain. Towards the end of last year, I found that my anxiety was especially bad, I was getting down and stressed more than ever and I was absolutely hating it, it was a combination of a lot of things but the Christmas holidays were a well needed break and this is when I personally decided that things needed to change. Last year I spent a lot of time realising that I had anxiety, but instead of accepting it and then working to improve it I did the exact opposite. Denying to myself that I could do anything about it, and denying to people that something was wrong. So this year I am going to accept it, but not in a way that I just give in to it. I am going to accept that there is something wrong, and then work towards a positive solution and how to fix it. You can't fix anything without first accepting that somethings broken.

Slightly different from all the other new years posts I have seen floating around, a different perspective on it all.

  1. Happy New Year lovely! Hope your anxiety isn't causing you too much trouble at the moment, Christmas and new year is the worst time of year for it because everything can just get on top of you. Here's to a positive 2016! XOX

  2. Wishing you an amazing 2016, Ottilie. This year will definitely be our year to let go of the negative surroundings, take things with a pinch of salt and focus on our wellbeing. 2015 was so stressful but I bought a lot of it on myself.   3. Wishing you a wonderful new year! I found your blog purely by coincidence but Ottillie or Ottelie has always been my most favourite name ever xD you are so lucky! I also suffer from anxiety and it is crazy the things your mind creates and conjures up to make you suffer. I hope you find relief from it in 2016 and I'm so happy to come across your blog! :D xx

  7. Good luck with overcoming your anxiety, I've decided that I really need to start overcoming mine this year, and so far I think I'm doing quite well (although only five days in aha)!
    It's such a horrible thing to have to go through, but you can definitely get rid of it if you try hard enough!

  8. Great post! <3 I hope you have a happy, positive year filled with friends and fun. I'm hoping to do a similar thing - I take life too seriously sometimes and I forget to just be. And to just be happy. Without worrying about the next task or finding the next problem to worry about.
