FOTD: Simple Matte Sunset Smokey Eye

Since posting a picture of this look I have been asked a couple of times what shadows I used etc, which inspired me to give this style of post a go. Sharing with you the details of a specific look, on the off chance that I took a good photo of it. The selfie struggle is real. This will inspire me to try new looks, use a wider range of products and of course (most importantly) force me to improve my selfie game.

Excuse the messy brows, they are in desperate need of some love and a good session of plucking to get them back into shape. My base makeup is pretty standard, so as this rarely changes I am doing a separate post focusing on my current base routine which should in be up within the next week or two.

Focusing on the eyes specifically today, I decided to try and really simple but effective sunset smokey eye. Nothing too dramatic, but something which I could add too and build it up to something much more dramatic and striking. The key thing to remember when creating something like this is blending, blend, blend and then blend some more. I didn't get this as blended and diffused as I would of liked looking back on it but it still looked finished and put together just something I would like to improve in the future.

All makeup geek shadows of course, using Creme Brûlée on a really fluffy brush I blended this through the crease, bringing it quite far down onto the lid also. I kept building this, and actually took a slightly more taped brush and reapplied for a more intense colour slightly lower than the initial application of colour.
Taking Cocoa Bear on a large crease brush, and blended this through the crease more precisely than Creme Brûlée but then again blended, reapplied, blended, reapplied until I had a good amount of colour built up.
Taking Mocha on a smudger brush I placed this all over the lid, and then blended out into the Cocoa Bear shade. I actually found this shade harder to blend than I usually do, I have no idea why so in the end I used a little bit of Cocoa Bear on my brush to help with the diffusion of the colour, making it easier to blend out.

To finish of my look I did a flick of liner with my Topshop Gel Liner, and then coated my lashes with Soap and Glory Thick & Fast Mascara. Nothing changes with my brows, so of course I am using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Pomade and L'Oreal Brow Plumper.

I'm going to keep working on doing different looks, and styles of makeup to get a few more of these posts up for you guys, what do you think?
